What a treat! Join Brian Doughty, owner of TRIPS and a Louisiana native, for a fun time in New Orleans during St. Patrick’s Day! From an authentic antebellum plantation to the magnificent food of New Orleans, our time in “The Big Easy” will immerse you in all that is Louisiana.
Get a taste of Mardi Gras with a behind the scenes look at its history and traditions when you visit Mardi Gras World. Get a cooking lesson at the New Orleans School of Cooking, housed in a renovated molasses warehouse built in the early 1800s. Enjoy lunch and time to shop in the school’s culinary gift shop.
Visit the National WWII Museum, voted one of the top 5 in the country. New Orleans was selected as the site of the museum because it was here that Andrew Higgins built the landing craft used in the amphibious invasions that President Eisenhower believed won the war for the Allies.
Stroll the French Quarter and visit trendy boutiques. Tour the Laura Plantation and discover Creole Louisiana in an historic farm surrounded by fields of sugarcane. Included is a guided tour of a slave cabin where the ancient west-African tales of Br’er Rabbit were recorded. Enjoy an authentic country cajun lunch on the southern shore of Lake Pontchartrain. See St. Charles Avenue’s superb collection of historic mansions.
Sit down at Morning Call for beignets and coffee, then enjoy the Downtown Irish Club Parade.
The next day you’ll have the whole day to explore New Orleans on your own. Revel in tasty gumbo and muffuletta, and stop at world famous Pat O’Brien’s for a Hurricane Cocktail. The Italian-American St. Joseph’s Day Parade kicks off at 6 p.m.
