Join us for a delightful one-day trip to historic Miami, Oklahoma, a must-see stop on Route 66. We’ll visit the Dobson Museum, a fascinating collection of artifacts highlighting the history of Ottawa County life, mining, military, Native American culture, famous residents, and industry. After touring the Route 66 Vintage Iron Motorcycle Museum, which is home to the Evel Knievel collection and features more than 25 vintage motorcycles, we’ll jaunt a few miles to Commerce, OK and visit Micky Mantle’s boyhood home. The highlight of this trip will undoubtably be the beautiful Coleman Theatre, a premier Vaudeville Movie Palace built in 1929. The exterior architecture is Spanish Mission Revival with terra cotta gargoyles, and other hand-carved figures adorn the building’s facade. The interior features gold leaf trim, silk damask panels and carved mahogany staircases. We’ll begin with a tour, and then enjoy a delicious dinner at the theatre, after which we’ll watch Angel and the Badman, which stars John Wayne and was the first movie he directed.
